Russian-born Lithuanian pianist Jelena Makarova first graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre receiving her Master's Degree in Piano Performance, Accompaniment and Piano teaching. She then moved to the UK and continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music, obtaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Performance. She studied piano with Colin Stone and chamber music with Michael Dussek and Nicola Eimer. Her studies were supported by the Kathleen Trust. Jelena is based in London and is in huge demand as an international soloist and chamber musician. Her multiple awards include 3rd prize at the Marlow International Concerto Competition and 1st prize winner at the Lithuanian National J. Gruodis Competition for Young Pianists. |
She has been performing in recitals and festivals in the USA, UK, Russia, Austria, Lithuania and Sweden at the world's finest concert venues such as Carnegie Hall, Mozarthaus in Vienna, St. George’s Hall in Bristol, Purcell Room, St. James’s Piccadilly and St. Martin-in-the-Fields, where she performed for the ‘Pianists of the World’ series, ILAMS society concerts and New Music series.
Her other performances include Liszt International Piano Festival, London Open House Day at St. John’s Smith Square, Gyorgy Kurtag’ s Music Festival ‘’Games, Signs and Messages ‘’ at London’s Southbank and the Royal Academy of Music, Lidköping International Music Festival in Sweden; London Contemporary Music Festival 2017, Beethoven Piano Society of Europe and Chetham's International Festival For Young Pianist.
Jelena is a very versatile musician. Along repertoire of a more traditional nature she also actively promotes New Music. Jelena has been collaborating with and performed, as a soloist and chamber musician, music by many established living composers such as Causton, Wallen, Kurtág, Riley, Woolrich, Weir, Borenstein and also young emerging composers.
She performed at St. John’s Smith Square with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain for the orchestra’s 40th Anniversary Concert, which included World Premiere of ‘’Guilded Theatre'’ by Kenneth Hesketh.
Jelena enjoys performing with other musicians. She is a pianist in Trio Sonorité with Canadian-American cellist Daryl Giuliano and Turkish clarinettist Özlem Çelik. The trio recently performed live on Women's Radio Station as part of Future Classic Women Awards.
She is also a co-founding member of vocal and piano collaborative project with soprano Jessica Summers called ‘Living Songs’ which includes incorporating songs written in 20th and 21st century into recital programmes and performing them along more well-known repertoire.
Jelena is also an educator and is currently employed by Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Educational Services (THAMES).
She had master classes with Pierre Laurent-Aimard (France), Paul Lewis (UK), Ian Hobson (USA), composer-pianist György Kurtág (Hungary), Herbert Zahling (Germany), Roger Vignoles (UK), Murray McLachlan (UK) and Joan Havill (UK).

We are on the corner of the Uxbridge Road and Gunnersbury Lane, W3, opposite Acton police station. Ten minutes walk form Acton Town tube station – District (Ealing Broadway) and Piccadilly lines. Front main entrance is on Gunnersbury Lane, turn right and walk down to the T-junction, turn right and the church is a twenty yards on your right.
Parking in Morrisons’ car park diagonally opposite (up to 1 hour before 4pm and unlimited thereafter). Street parking on Steyne Road (opposite), limited parking in Woodlands Avenue down the side of the church. Beware of the dropped curb at the end as parking tickets are issued on Sundays! |
